Warming our Hearts in the Cold of Winter with "Unbridled"

Jose Mateo Ballet Theatre Warms up Winter with Unbridled, February 14-March 2, 2014

The Jose Mateo Ballet Theatre will satisfy your artistic preferences for both dance and classical music. Consisting of three distinctive ballets, Unbridled's dance is set to the classical music of Schubert, Mozart and Bartok.  Unbridled runs now through March 2, 2014 at the Sanctuary Theatre in Harvard Square.

Jose Mateo Ballet - UnbridledJose Mateo Ballet Theatre continues the Company’s remarkable 28th Season with a concert of stunning original ballets by New England’s celebrated dance-maker, Jose Mateo.  Unbridled (Feb.14-March 2) warms up winter’s cold with three of Mateo’s most popular ballets that explore the passion and complexities of human relationships.

Unbridled is the second of a four-concert repertory series at the glorious Sanctuary Theatre, 400 Harvard St, Harvard Square, Cambridge. Great musical works from the Classical, Romantic and Modern styles are the forces behind this program of three Mateo favorites that will escort you to varied personal realms of love, courtship and sensuality. Take a journey through dance’s vast range of dramatic expression from the emotionally restrained to the passionately unbridled.

The "Unbridled" performance features three Mateo favorites that will escort you to personal realms of love, courtship and sensuality. The program includes Schubert Adagio, Mozart Concerto and Sound Secrets.

  • Mateo’s intimate and deeply passionate Schubert Adagio, set to Franz Schubert’s Quintet in C.  The ballet has become one of Mateo most popular and acclaimed works since its premiere in 1991 at the Cutler Majestic Theatre.
  • While deceptively wrapped in the alluring formal patterns of classical ballet, Mozart Concerto (premiered 1991), set to Mozart’s Piano Concerto #20, unsuspectingly takes audiences to the more private realm of personal emotion.
  • Sound Secrets (premiered 2010) features a woman haunted by her own guilt about her disloyalty to a lover who is himself unashamedly disloyal, set to Bela Bartok’s Sonata for Two Pianos and Percussion.
