Dan Chamberlain  grew up in Old Saybrook, Connecticut and moved to Boston in August of 2011 to work for City Year. Through the organization, he spent the past school year at the Orchard Gardens K-8 School in Roxbury as a tutor and mentor to the 3rd and 4th grade students he worked with.

He has spent time working on rural organic farms, and began volunteering with the Boston Natural Areas Network (BNAN) at their City Natives learning garden in Mattapan in September of last year, as a way to learn more about urban gardening, and become involved with the urban gardening community here in Boston.

In April, Dan completed BNAN’s “Green Thumb” urban gardening course, which focused on organic gardening techniques and the specific considerations that are needed when gardening in an urban environment. In August, he will begin working with the Cambridge-based non-profit City Sprouts at the Orchard Gardens school, to help teachers and other school staff integrate the school garden and nutrition education programs into the curriculum.

Dan currently lives in Jamaica Plain and tends a small rooftop garden at his apartment.
