Early Spring Photos in Uphams Corner 2013 Photos of 'Spring Time in Uphams Corner on Palm Sunday, March 24, 2013, capturing the people, objects and natural settings present that day and every day in Uphams Corner.

The people were friendly and loved having their photos taken. Nature was cooperative as well, showing signs of Winter with leftover clumps of snow. The green of new grown life was perking its way out of the soil while other bushes were holding off on releasing their spring leaves and blossoms.

Celebrating Together: Poetry & Jazz at the Uphams Corner Library

Jazz BostonJazzBoston! combines poetry and jazz in celebration of National Poetry Month (April) and the Smithsonian’s Jazz Appreciation Month at the Uphams Corner Branch.

New England Conservatory (NEC) students will read jazz-influenced poems selected by U.S. Poet Laureate, Robert Pinsky, then perform the music that inspired them. After the performance, feel free to read one of Mr. Pinsky’s poems outloud.

Presented by JazzBoston and sponsored by the City Wide Friends of the Boston Public Library.

Hydroponic Gardening: Hands-On Learning at the Kroc Center

Hydroponics Gardening at the Kroc CenterHydroponics gardening is a popular afterschool program for young gardeners, ages 10-12 years. They build 'window farms', plant seeds, transplant sprouts and seedlings and take their harvest home.

Janet Lorden from he STEM Garden Instititute is the teacher and Marisol Ayala from the Kroc Center, the program manager. Funded by an NSF grant, the program is paying off. Students say: "I love growing plants." They are also good at sharing their youthful knowledge of botany.

New Posted Street Sweeping signs in East Uphams Corner
Enforcement begins during the week of april 8, 2013.

Boston Public Works DeptThe Boston Public Works Department has implemented new schedules for posted street sweeping programs on many streets in Dorchester.

The purpose of these changes is to align the street sweeping program to closely follow the day of residential trash/recycling collection. This program will allow for more effective mechanical street sweeping resulting in a cleaner environment in your community.

Please refer to the list of streets to be posted with new sweeping days/hours.mm
