Week of June 16 Begins New Program

The week of June 16 begins the new City of Boston, Department of Public Works expansion of their yard waste recycling program. DPW Summer Waste Collection

As of April 22, 2014, the City's program now includes a once-a-month pickup during the summer months of June, July, August and September.

Hooray for the City finally deciding that recycling yard waste during the growing months, not just the cleanup months, was important, would enhance the City's ability to deliver compost to gardens and keep Nature's Gold out of the landfills.

"CityHall to Go" Coming to the Strand Theatre

City Hall to Go

But for some, travelling downtown to City Hall can be a long way to go. Boston is, after all, a city that stretches across nearly fifty square miles. Many people need a personal interaction to get direct services, ask a question or get information, so Boston is taking City Hall to YOU.

CityHall To Go will be at the Strand Theatre in Uphams Corner on Friday, June 27, 2014 from 12:30 - 2:30 pm.

Governor's Tea - William Kuttner as Enoch Bartlett 6/27/14

Shirley-Eustis House The Shirley-Eustis House Museum and Discover Roxbury are teaming up to present a very special Governor's Tea on Friday, June 27, 2014, 4-6 pm. 

Living history historian, William Kuttner, will portray Enoch Bartlett, a dear friend of the Governor's wife.  A first-person interpretive program bringing history alive, it is well worth attending.

UP Market - First Open Air Market in Uphams Corner 9/14/13

UP Market 9/14/13The first solo open air market in Uphams Corner, dubbed the UP Market, was held on Saturday, September 14.  Making the event more festive were individual vendor "tents" providing cover from the elements, a sense of intimacy and the look of private storefronts.  The mood was exciting and festive as the vendors hoped for strong sales.

Uphams Corner Main Street Fundraiser 2014 - Aesthetic, Tasty, Not-so-Tasty

UCMS FundraiserThe Uphams Corner Main Street fundraiser drew an enthusiastic crowd to enter the Strand Theatre's stage in lounge style - complete with a full bar table and tender and a banquet table of locally prepared food. 

The silent auction items, even if you didn't bid, were great for imagining.  Unfortunately, the appetizers were 'fake' food - disappointing.  Congratulations to everyone who helped make this year's event a success.

Families of the graduates, Salvation Army dignitaries, members of the community and special guests celebrated, enjoying Chicken Enchiladas and listening to testimonials from students.  Enjoy over 40 photos.
