Letters to the Editor:
Grove Hall Library Celebration
Apr 11 16:29 2014
The successful 5 years of operation of the Grove Hall Library in its
new space is a reflection of its strong relationship with its community
and public partners that made this new structure possible.
Project RIGHT, Inc.
is proud to be a partner with the Grove Hall Library and to have worked
with so many residents and young people in the organizing for this new
facility and its design.
Michael Kozu
Editor Comments:
I had the very same conversation with Roberta Young,
Treasurer of Greater Grove Hall Main Streets who could quickly recall
the nature of their joint cooperation. It is good to see this
social vibrancy within our community.

Cedric Douglas - Winner, Uphams Corner Public Art Commission
Cedric Douglas, winner of the Uphams Corner Public Arts Commission,
has a daunting task ahead - to engage the residents and businesses in a
conversation about public art.
The Arts committee under the direction
of DSNI and funding by The Boston Foundation found his proposal most
compelling.
His winning proposal is already taking shape with a
brazenly decorated UP truck designed to comb the neighborhood streets
for anyone who is curious, loves talking, is passionate and
expressive.

Hub Theatre - "Three Days Rain" - A Look at the Human Condition
The
Hub Theatre of Boston's 2nd season opens with Richard Greenberg's play,
"Three Days of Rain." Playing weekends through April 19, the play
is ostensibly about a dysfunctional family but twists the plot into a
statement - or question - about ourselves.
The
acting is superb and the play complex and maintains your interest,
curiosity and intellectual questioning. Hub Theatre's production
is a must-see for excellent literature and excellent acting. At First
Church of Boston in the Back Bay.

St. Kevin's from the Past - Photos
There is a growing interest in nostalgic photos and memories about St.
Kevin's as the buildings crumble to the ground and get changed so much,
they fail to look like the past.
On
December 30, 2011 and January 1, 2012, because the Catholic Archdiocese
was not securing the buildigs, they were wide open. Just walk
in. So we documented the contents in both buildings - 516
and 530 Columbia Rd.
While
the inside photos are ostensibly warehouse-like with stacked school
equipment, they are more than that. Hidden inside and behind were
wonders to behold. They are sure to be important to those who
went to St. Kevin's and remember it well.

Celebrating
its 5th anniversary, the Grove Hall Branch Library invited community
organizations and, of course, library members - adults and kids - to

Who
couldn't resist the JP Licks ice cream or pizza or cookies? "Has
it really been that long?"
Time
flies and onto the next ten or more years of serviing the Grove Hall
community. "We encourage everyone, especially the youth, to read,
read, read."

Election Workers - Behind the Scenes on Voting Day
Boston's
Election Department works quietly to set up a well-oiled voting process
- training the workers, distributing equipment, receiving the voting
counts after 8 pm and retrieving the equipment the next day.
How the voting public experiences the voting process is key to voters returning to the polls.
Thanks go to Marty Kain for ensuring the election workers are
thoroughly trained and thanks to the election workers for arriving at 6
am and working a very long day to ensure a smooth and error-free voting
