Praising Johnson Decision
October 26, 2011
State
Representative Carlos Henriquez, an alumni of Boston Latin Academy,
today hailed Superintendent Johnson's decision to keep the school at
its current address at 205 Townsend Street.
Representative Henriquez stated, "Superintendent Johnson deserves
credit for taking the time to listen to the concerns parents and of the
community. This was an open process from day one.
Although all parties involved weren't always in agreement everyone had
an opportunity to voice their concerns and be heard. We were always
told [following the school's last move in 1991] that the BLA would get
a home it deserves," Henriquez said. "205 Townsend was that home and
I'm proud to say will continue to be that home."

VIN Etching

October 29, 2011 the Boston Police Department District C-11, in
conjunction with the Savin Hill Historical Advisers, and the Governor's
Auto Theft Task Force will sponsor an Auto Theft Prevention Program
called "VIN Etching"
View program flyer
The event will be held at Peter's Towing, 150 Freeport St. Dorchester

stencil and a glass reactive acid treatment. This provides a visible
deterrent to theft and can be good for a discount of up to 15% off on
your comprehensive auto insurance.
In order to participate you need to have the following items:
- A vehicle with a current and valid registration
- $10.00 cash, which is paid to the Auto Theft Strike Force to defray the cost of materials.

unusual dates: 1/1/11, 1/11/11, 11/1/11, 11/11/11, and that's not
all!
Take the last two digits of the year you were born and the age
you will be this year and the result will add up to 111 for
everyone!!!!
This year, October will have 5 Sundays, 5 Mondays & 5 Saturdays.
This happens only once every 823 years. These particular years are
known as Moneybag years.
What does all of this mean? Why, good luck, of course!
UCIA Mission Statement and Operating Philosophy
October 20, 2011
The Upham's Corner Improvement Association is an organization from many
cultures whose membership seeks to improve the:
1. The image of our community
2. The quality of life in our community
3. The relationships with our neighboring communities
-
Our motto is "Upham's Corner Shines" and is meant to suggest
cleanliness, beauty and an attractive community where everyone feels
important and welcome.
-
We believe that cooperation begins with effective relationships.
We will be developing our relationships through an attitude of
thoughtfulness, love and respect.
-
We will seek to effect change by demonstrating through our own actions and by engaging others in active participation.
-
We are an organization committed to action. Every "meeting" will be an opportunity to make progress, not just talk.
-
By taking one small step every day/week, and by encouraging the people around us to do the same, we can make a big difference.
