The Upham's Corner Library is Swimmingly Booked

Posted: February 10, 2012     Nancy J Conrad

Sponsored by the Friends of Uphams Corner Branch Library, the Upham’s Corner Library fundraiser features a “fantastic” pool party.

The evening will feature great food, a cash bar, a silent auction, and dancing to the sounds of Conscious Reggae but they will let you imagine that where you are standing was once filled with water.

For that reason, the children’s library (downstairs) appears to be in a “pit.”  It is, and that adds substantially to its charm and intimacy.

According to the BPL, the goal of this event is to raise funds to support programming at the library with a particular focus on:
  • improving the Portuguese language collection,
  • supporting a monthly story hour in Cape Verdean Creole/Portuguese, and
  • funding other activities to promote lifelong learning for neighborhood residents.

Swimming?
Sure.  Amidst the book collection.
Diving? Sure.  Into your favorite pastime - reading.

This is a terrific chance to come out and strut to the sounds of the Calypso beat and music that will make your dancing feet come alive.

Many library staff and Library Friends have worked hard to plan this event - your cup o’ tea or your glass of wine for the sipping. Not just the ticket ($25) but the silent auction will help raise money for the library, so come on down.

Tickets to the event are $25 and the event runs Friday night, Feb 10, 2012 from 7:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m.
Call the Uphams Corner Branch at 617-265-0139 and ask for Georgia Titonis.
