Union Carpenters' Apprentice Opportunity - Spring 2012

The New England Carpenters Training Fund (NECTF) will be conducting interview's to establish an "Eligible Pool of Apprentice Applicants". Interviews will be conducted in late March or early April of 2012. Additional interviews will be conducted as demand requires.

Who can Apply?

Anyone age 17 or older, who is a High School graduate or has a GED. High school seniors may apply with a letter from their school stating that they are eligible to graduate within three months. Women, minorities and veterans are strongly encouraged to apply.

How does someone apply?
  • Applicants must attend an informational session. Informational Sessions run approximately one hour.
  • Applications to become an Apprentice are distributed at the conclusion of Informational Sessions.
  • Attendance for the entire informational session is mandatory. Late arrivals will be denied admission to that session.

What happens after an application is submitted?

Everyone who has met all apprenticeship application requirements will be considered for apprenticeship and scheduled for an interview. The next Interviews are anticipated in late March or early April of 2012. Additional interviews will be conducted as demand requires.
What is a Carpenters’ Apprenticeship?

Apprenticeship is a training program where you earn wages while you learn to become a skilled carpenter. Apprenticeship combines classroom studies with on-the-job training supervised by a trade professional. Much like a college education, it takes several years to become fully trained in the trade that you choose. Unlike college, though, as an apprentice you’ll earn while you learn. At first, you’ll make less money than skilled workers; but as you progress, you’ll get regular raises. Once you have mastered the craft, you will receive professional wages.

Mandatory Requirements:

As an interested applicant for the Apprenticeship Program, it is your responsibility to complete all of the following mandatory requirements:
    __ Provide reliable documentation of proof of age (minimum 17 years of age). Birth certificate preferred (Driver’s License, Passport, Green Card acceptable).
__ Provide copies of documentation of high school graduation and transcript for high school, or completion of a GED. (High school seniors must provide transcripts and a letter from their schools stating that they are eligible to graduate within three months).
__ Applicants must provide proof of satisfactory completion of a prejob preparatory course in Carpentry of at least six (6) months, such as United Brotherhood of Carpenters (UBC), Job Corps, or other approved carpentry apprentice preparatory course, or on-the-job training of six (6) months or 1500 hours experience in the construction field that would qualify an applicant as having met the minimum educational requirements.
Optional / Supplemental Documentation:
As an interested party for the Apprenticeship Program you may choose to submit any or all - of the following supplemental documents to enhance your application:
     __ Submit a training achievement record (TAR) to verify UBC Job Corps training and/or experience if you wish to receive consideration for such training/experience.
     __ Submit a DD-214 to verify military training and/or experience if a veteran and if you wish to receive consideration for such training/experience.
     __ Provide evidence of successful completion of an OSHA 10 for Construction if you wish to receive consideration for such training/experience.
     __ Provide evidence of having a valid driver’s license.
     __ Provide any other documentation or information such as letters of recommendation, personal merit citations, achievement awards, etc that the applicant would like the sponsor to consider.
