Organization Description:
The mission of Upham’s Corner Main Street (UCMS) is
to improve quality of life in the Upham’s Corner business district by
helping neighborhood businesses thrive. UCMS is a grassroots
organization and accomplishes its mission through a volunteer-led four
committee structure:
- Design Committee – implement physical design improvements to the district
- Economic Restructuring Committee – assist existing businesses and recruit new ones
- Promotion Committee – promote the district through events to build more foot traffic in the district
- Organization Committee – maintain fiscal and volunteer sustainability
Position Overview:
The Events and Communications Manager will support event planning and
marketing of UCMS programming and events throughout the one year, with
a focus on the ArtPlace initiative. This position will report to the
Executive Director.
Core Functions:
- Develop new and support existing events and programs related to the ArtPlace cultural economic development

initiative and other UCMS initiatives, including but not limited to planning, outreach, staffing, and impact evaluation.
- Lead communications and marketing of these activities to drive participation and highlight UCMS

accomplishments through use of social media (Facebook, Twitter, e-newsletter), website, and media outlets
- Support building partnerships with Upham’s Corner stakeholders, including merchants, residents, and institutions
- Document impact of the position through the duration to analyze long-term viability for role
- Research on acquiring new resources as needed to continue position beyond one year duration
Requirements:
- Experience or interest in community development; preferably in a grassroots setting
- Interest or experience in connecting arts/culture with local economic development
- Demonstrated experience with event planning, marketing (including social media), and/or communications
- Ability to work with diverse groups of people
- Ability to work flexible hours, including weekday evenings and weekends, or from home
- Excellent leadership, problem solving and analytical skills; self-starter
- Proficiency in another language strongly preferred
- Knowledge of Upham’s Corner and the City of Boston strongly preferred
- Graphic design experience preferred
