Following the successful completion of the ParkARTS "Pics in the Parks" workshops, held at six different locations managed by the Parks Department, participants (all budding and enthusiastic lay photographers) were invited to finalize their submissions (up to 5 photos per workshop attended).

Of those submitted, twenty-two photos from thirteen artists were selected for mounting by a combination of the Parks Department and the City's Photo Shop.  Beautifully displayed, as if curated by an arts gallery, the photos emphasize the breadth of photographer skill and the phtographer's preferences for object at each of the workshop sites - seascapes, landscapes, scultures and detailed nature photos, all of them revealing "secrets" about the many wonderful places available to residents within the City of Boston for pleasure, relaxation and a chance to regroup spiritually.

The entire summer would not be complete without an artist reception.  Held on Wed, Oct 17 from 5:00 to 6:30pm at City Hall.  Lauren Patrick thanked the participants and the workshop instructor, Sarah Berry.  Best of all was a warm welcome and thank you by the Parks Commissioner, Antonia M. Pollak.  She expressed her pride about the extent of natural beauty present in the City and asked the group directly:  "Did you get to go to places you have never seen before?"

Everyone agreed that getting a chance to see sections of the City they never knew existed was icing on the cake which they dearly loved but prefered not applying to their cameras (hah hah) !!.

More about Pics in the Parks

ParkARTS
ParkARTS is a special offering of concerts, art workshops, programs, and public events across the city that fall into two basic programs: Participatory Arts and Performing Arts. One of the participatory arts programs is "Pics in the Parks" workshops.

Consisting of a series of six photography workshops, it offers an opportunity to “learn tricks and techniques of taking a perfect photograph." Each workshop is held in a different location (see list below) with a theme that changes with each class.

If that wasn't motivation enough to attend, how about having some of your photos on display at City Hall in a 4-week post workshop exhibit?

. . . Like an Open Studios for Pics in the Parks participants.  Wow!
