Neighbors Helping Neighbors on Virginia St May 2012

Posted: May 9, 2012     Nancy J Conrad

These are neighbors helping neighbors on Virginia Street.  They live across the street from each other and they have been exchanging family events for several years - concerts in one house and pork barbecues in another.  The Westside family said it was time to plant flowers in the tree pit of the Eastside family.  When that was done, it just seemed natural to start removing the stray grass and weeds growing out of cracks in the sidewalk.

Then another neighbor from way down on Virginia Street happened to walk by.  She said she'd like to join the fun but "Wait!  Let me go home and get my gloves. I'll be right back."  Before leaving home, she called Upham's Corner News and said: "Stop by. There's a story and some good photos."  By then Upham's Corner News had already found the neighbors working, had gone home to get the camera and found the message saying:  "Stop by."

When we arrived, the neighbors had gone one step further. They were removing trash and weeds from the tall hedges surrounding the property.

It was clear everyone was having fun while making a big difference in the appearance of the property and the street.  That included Mom, who lives there, but who speaks no English. She is from Puerto Rico. But that didn't stop her from chatting away in her native Spanish - about her family and the cleaning work she was doing.  Why has it ended?  Because your client, a very rich woman (millionaire) living in downtown Boston, had passed away.  Stories, stories stories.
