NEIDL Seeking Community Liaison Committee Members

Boston UniversityThe National Emerging Infectious Disease Lab (NEIDL) is looking for members to sit on the Community Liaison Committee for the  National Infectious Disease Lab (NEIDL), chaired by Valeda J. Britton (contact information below).

The  Community Liaison Committee (CLC) is a 6 member committee that interfaces with the NEIDL leadership.   They are not affiliated with BU.

About the CLC
  • The CLC is an advisory group.They are more like a task force than a board. 
  • They serve as a bridge/ liaison between the community and the NEIDL.
  • CLC members hear first hand about the safety, security and science that are a large part of the NEIDL.
  • They  hear first about community grants, scholarships and other programs that BU has  that impact the community. 
  • They share info with the community on activities and operations at the NEIDL.
  • They tell the NEIDL leadership what the community is thinking, feeling and saying about the NEIDL, its operations and activities.
  • They offer advice and suggestions to the NEIDL leadership on community issues. 

The CLC meets monthly - the third Tuesday of the month for 1 1/2 hours. Currently we meet in the mornings from 9-10:30 in the NEIDL. The current CLC is aware that evening meetings  will need to be scheduled to attract new members. 

Composition of CLC
  • The hope is to  bring on 12 new members to sit for 2 years
  • 4 more community members from Dorchester, Roxbury,  South Boston and the  South End, including business and union leaders.
  • Folks that have served on the Mayor's neighborhood task forces would be helpful. 
  • 2 bilingual members of these communities
  • 4 members from greater Boston at large who have scientific, medical or public health expertise
  • 2 members of these communities who have pr or communications expertise .

The National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories (NEIDL) is seeking applications for new members for its Community Liaison Committee (CLC).

The NEIDL, operated by Boston University, contains state-of-the-art laboratories where researchers will develop vaccines and treatments for infectious diseases that are or have the potential to become major public health concerns. The CLC facilitates communication between the NEIDL and the community by sharing information with the community on the activities at the NEIDL and providing feedback to NEIDL staff from the community.

BU is seeking additional members from Dorchester, Roxbury, South Boston, and the South End.
