On Monday, 2/10/14, a woman in her 70's was hit by an MBTA bus just
after 11:35 am as she was crossing Columbia Rd. According to
Joseph O’Connor, superintendent-in-chief of the MBTA Transit Police,
the bus driver was on Dudley Street, making a left onto Columbia Road
when he struck the woman. The unidentified woman was transported
to Boston Medical Center with very serious injuries.
According to WBZ NewsRadio 1030's Carl Stevens, the bus driver was very
upset at the scene, telling people ‘I never saw her.’ He was
taken to a hospital for stress-related ailments.
O'Connor said the T police were following their standard procedures:
- They were carrying out “an active crime scene investigation” in the crosswalk
- The crash scene was cordoned off with police tape well into the afternoon
- T police accident reconstruction team were carrying out their investigation
- The driver’s blood was tested for alcohol and drugs
T police are looking into solar glare as a possible factor in the
accident. Homicide detectives were also sent to the scene of the
accident due to its severity. MBTA spokeswoman Kelly Smith said as of
Monday evening, she was in critical condition.

I thought I'd share with you a picture I took (and added arrows
& words to) to show the problem with the walk lights at Dudley &
Columbia in case you'd like a visual to show how the walk lights are on
when there's moving traffic. I've posted this on facebook and tried
tweeting it at the City. Trying to disseminate it until someone takes
action.
