Here's thanks to Lower Mills Branch of BPL and sponsors for their annual concert last night, Monday, June 2. Under bright blue skies, the Bill Lowe Band offered a musical experience for old and young that's virtually priceless!

Grove Hall Library Celebration
Fri Apr 11, 2014 4:29 pm

The successful 5 years of operation of the Grove Hall Library in its new space is a reflection of its strong relationship with its community and public partners that made this new structure possible.

Project RIGHT, Inc. is proud to be a parner with the Grove Hall Library and to have worked with so many residents and young people in the organizing for this new facility and its design.

Editor Comments:

I had the very same conversation with Roberta Young, Treasurer of Greater Grove Hall Main Streets who could quickly recall the nature of their joint cooperation.  It is good to see this social vibrancy within our community.

Uphams Corner Public Art Commission - Who is the Winner?Sun Apr 06, 2014 10:35 am
The Horse and a Pumpkin Cart - The Pumpkin Cart will rock at the Strand in support for my pick artist from the first five. Though this idea was not selected, it still represents a piece of Uphams Corner's history - the early times before modern transportation emerged in the City of Boston.

Thank you Nancy, you are fabulous!

I thought I'd share with Uphams Corner News a picture I took (and added arrows & words to) to show the problem with the walk lights at Dudley & Columbia.  One of the biggest problems is that that walk lights are on when there's moving traffic.

I've posted this on facebook and tried tweeting it at the City.  Trying to disseminate it until someone takes action.

Harry Potter Hacking Email in Uphams Corner?
Mon Jan 27, 2014 1:36:44

Hi Nancy
WOW...this is the best and most comprehensive explanation of this whole hacking business.  We, too, have had a similar experience and every email went astray while I was pleading for money from Cypress.  It is scary and invasive.  Thank you for sharing all of this with your readers.  Best.

History of Boston's First Afrocentric Store: A Nubian Notion Inc

I am honored to know most of the "iconic" Abdal Khallaq Family! I have been going into a Nubian Notion since the beginning.I used to "slap five" with Malik Abdal Khallaq at his barber shop on the corner of Humboldt Ave & Munroe Street, on my way to see Ernie Jones & Mother Jones (who still lives on Munroe St.)"back-in-the-day!"

One day A Nubian Notion will be considered a Landmark Building" and a huge part of the "Afrocentric Flow" in the Dudley Street area and City of Boston.  God Bless the Abdal Khallaq Family and A Nubian Notion!

Thank you for starting this paper! I really appreciate it!

Having a paper is such an important part of civic life ... I was wondering if perhaps you'd be interested in being interviewed, in terms of your role as starting UC News, and maybe the interview could be included in a future UC News, or other Boston papers ... let me know what you think. I probably wouldn't have time until later in the spring anyway, but keep it in mind.

I love winter, and the snow. To me snow is beautiful  and brings silence, and peace. Let's take nature serious, and pause to admire the peaceful moments of snowy days.

Subject: "Nemo" Driving Ban

We in the United States have many reasons for giving up our personal liberties. Now we may add snow removal to that list. The authorities acted as though citizens were in the way of public services rather than having public services serve the citizens. It was all overdone, including economic impacts. Apparently all it takes for one's judgment to supersede all others is being elected to executive office. The positives do not outweigh those considerations.
