City Parking Lot Signs in ErrorSleep-Walking our Way through Upham's Corner

Since August 2010, when UC News first opened shop, we have emphasized infrastructure problems and updates - on the assumption that such coverage would make a difference.  In 2011 alone there were four neighborhood walks but none has amounted to much.

And if none of this has made any difference, maybe it was all just a bad dream.  Maybe we were sleep-walking - imagining it was real.

What is the problem?
Why are other Boston neighborhoods making progress while Upham's Corner seems to be standing still?

SNI Neighborhood WalkSafe Neighborhood Initiative holds Neighborhood Walk in Upham's Corner

The Uphams Corner SNI led neighborhood walk on 12/22/2011 began at The City School a little after one o'clock and the showing was impressive – SNI, DSNI, Main Street, BPD, Upham's Corner News, businesses and a dozen or so area residents.

Missing were city organizations that typically attend such events - ISD, BTD and Neighborhood Services. The route consisted of the business district and the streets that had been covered on the June SNI walk (Humphreys, Groom, Eastman, Wendover, Belden).

Saint Theresa's Prayer

May today there be peace within.
May you trust God that you are exactly where you are meant to be.
May you not forget the infinite possibilities that are born of faith.
May you use those gifts that you have received, and pass on the love that has been given to you.
May you be content knowing you are a child of God.
Let this presence settle into your bones, and allow your soul the freedom to sing, dance, praise and love.
It is there for each and every one of us..
Since August 2010, there have been multiple infrastructure reports and neighborhood walk-throughs in Upham's Corner and many before even that.  Yet, very little changes.

In 2011 alone there were four neighborhood walks in Upham's Corner but none has amounted to much.  Yes, some progress was made as a result of the June SNI walk but the neighborhood still looks pretty much the same as is clearly indicated by the Dec 22 SNI walk-through.

It's nice that Upham's Corner News has taken the time to publish investigative reports on the infrastructure condition here but so what!  If no one (including UC News) is assigned or takes the time to follow up on the issues identified, then it was almost a complete waste of time.
