A resident of Boston, Massachusetts, Edmund Andrade, Jr. was born on December 22, 1987 and passed away on Wednesday, April 20, 2011. He had been murdered, fatally shot in the head.  The incident occurred in Upham’s Corner close to the intersection of Trull and Ware Streets (approximately #22 Trull).

Edmund Andrade, Jr. became victim #2 of six murdered in Upham's Corner in 2011.

His funeral mass was held at 10 AM, Thursday, April 28, 2011 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church on Bowdoin Street in Dorchester.

Edmund’s mother, Tereza, sat in the front pew almost inconsolable.  As the soulful sounds of Creole chant filled the congregational space, family members surrounding Tereza tried to keep her from fainting.  Edmund “Duce” Anrade, 23, lay in repose in the center of the altar in the casket adorned with hundred flowers in his memory.

According to a MetroDesk Boston.com article, a neighbor and former gang member told the Globe at Andrade’s funeral last year that Andrade was known to have sold drugs.**

The murder greatly upset the Cape Verdean community so Rep. Carlos Henriquez along with City of Boston Councilor, Ayanna Pressley, scheduled a community meeting to discuss resident concerns.

The Cape Verdean Community turned out in large numbers (268) on April 21, 2011.   Violence in the community and the potential loss of the Cape Verde Adult Daycare facility were the passionate topics of the night.
