Dorchester Day Parade June 5, 2011

Captain Squib of the ship Mary and John entered Boston Harbor on May 30, 1630, having left England on March 20, 1630.  On June 17, 1630 a boat with eight men landed on the Dorchester shore at what today is known as Columbia Point. Dorchester Day began in the year 1904, as inaugurated by the Dorrchester Historical Society to observe the 274th anniversary of the settlement of Dorchester. Dorchester Atheneum
This year's Dorchester Day Parade is taking place on Sunday, June 5, 2011.  Planning begins months in advance with a lot of the effort geared towards fundraising.  In 2003 the cost was $40,000 according to a   So the first fundraising event begins on March 24 with a meatloaf dinner.

The annual meatloaf dinner and entertainment. Winning essays from the Dorchester Day Parade Committee will be awarded and read. Tickets can be purchased at the door. $15 for adults / $7 for children or $30 for a family of four. For information, please contact: Ed Geary, Jr. (617) 265-5376.

5th anniversary of the legendary cook-off. This year there will be judges to award prizes in various categories as well as the people's choice voting for the best chili.

Advance tickets are $15.00 per adult, $25.00 for a family of four, additional children $5.00 each. On the day of the cook-off adult tickets are $20.00 and $30.00 for a family of four.
