CI Lab stands for "Community Innovation Lab," a course facilitated by Harvard University and the City of Boston Mayor's Office of New Urban Mechanics.  At the outset of the course, community partners paired with CI lab graduate students and identified important local issues.  The graduate students then worked collaboratively to develop what they call "realizable" proposals which feature technological solutions.

Following the course completion, it becomes the responsibility of the Mayor's New Urban Mechanics Department to follow-up with community partners for the implementation phase.

Topics Important to Uphams Corner

While the students are covering a broad range of topics for many community partners, some topics are specific to Uphams Corner.  According to Max MacCarthy, executive director of Uphams Corner Main Street, students from the CI lab have been addressing three topics important to the Uphams Corner business district.
  1. Strand Theater/district business recruitment
  2. Activating the Dorchester North Burying Ground
  3. Engaging the community on an Upham's Corner "brand" or "identity"

December 3, 2012 is the day that nine student presentations will be given followed by a reception to celebrate their work.  Plan to attend this wonderful event to help guide the future of our community.
