Tuesday, December 14, 2010Dorchester Collegiate Academy

We met with Bob Flynn, Principle of the Dorchester Collegiate Academy at 131 Hancock Street in Upham's Corner.  Upham's Corner News would like to know more about this new and upcoming school, and we'd like to hear it from everyone involved - the students, parents, teachers and administrators.

Bob has agreed that working with UC News is a great idea.  We will be publishing their Board Meetings in the calendar and encouraging the community to support them and help make DCA a hallmark of education in the City and the Commonwealth.
Licensing Board Hearing on Cataloni's (A&R)

The Boston Licensing Board scheduled a hearing for A&R Enterprises concerning the non-use of their alcohol license. According to the BLB records, the hearing was "continued."

The continuation was granted at the request of the lawyer for A&R who asked for the hearing to be delayed one month.  The hearing has been rescheduled for January 11, 2010.
In early December the City's graffiti team arrived in Upham's Corner to take care of several graffiti sites.  Once the site has been identified as needing attention, the owner must give the city permission to do the work.  For steel grates a high-pressured hot water system is used.  For painted brick surfaces, the solution is to paint over.

Following are photos before and after of the Virginia side wall of Rainbow Fashions.

Did the City of Boston Graffiti Team make a difference?  Absolutely.  Does the color match?  No, but that is not the point.  In the business district, a shopper's eye is easily attracted to graffiti.  It is rarely attracted to small differences in color.
