One Step at a Time with Our Youth.
September 10th-14TH
4:00 pm - 6:00 pm
I-PhiT4Life Gymboree
Mission: Promote healthy living and encourage our youth to assume
responsibility for their health.
"Together, we have come a long way toward making Boston a healthier
city, and Boston Moves for Health is the next step forward," said Mayor
Thomas Menino. With our Mayor's vision, I-PhiT4Life, Boston's Bridge to
Excellence (BB2E) and BCYF, Cleveland Community Center are educating
the City of Boston on the following September Public Health Initiatives:
- Childhood Cancer Awareness
- National Cholesterol Education
- National Childhood Obesity Awareness
- Fruit and Veggie - More Matter
It is easy to make a resolution to get fit, but staying active in all
seasons can be a challenge.
"Our goal is to keep our students who were in our summer program
healthy year round," said Dejon Rice, President/CEO of Boston's
Bridge
to Excellence. We have incorporated the First Lady Michelle Obama's
"Let's Move!" Child Obesity Campaign, Nutrition, Hands Only CPR,
Cholesterol Education and the Gold Ribbon for Childhood
Cancer.
To effect social change, we must first assess our own health. Kyla
Simmons, a 16-year-old student at the Community Academy of Science and
Health (CASH) made a huge impact as a summer Boston Youth Fund Teen
Employee overseeing the Boston moves for Health girls program at the
Cleveland Community Center. Kyla recognizes through education that she
as well as her peers can fight against obesity and lower their chances
of high cholesterol and cancer.
Education is an important factor contributing to our youth's chances
of
leading productive and responsible lives. "Peer educators is a group
of
diverse student leaders who combine their passion for health education
and wellness with a desire to make a difference in their community,"
stated Mike Triant Administrator at BCYF.
All activities will be held at BCYF Cleveland 11 Charles Street,
Dorchester, MA 02122.
